Put Your Wellies On with… Natasha Kaplinsky | Show notes

Welcome back to the Put Your Wellies On podcast show notes. If you haven’t already make sure you listen to our latest episode, available wherever you get your podcasts, and catch up on all our previous episodes!

In this weeks Put Your Wellies On we went for a walk with the fabulous Natasha Kaplinsky. We talked all about the wonderful work she is doing for Holocaust education and supporting under-priveliged children through various charities and projects. She also gave us a peek inside the real world of Strictly Come Dancing, and the commitment it took to take her to the final. Lockdown inevitably crept into the conversation, and she told us the unusual way in which she kept her family and her community sane during difficult times together. Her book Letters from Lockdown is available now from major retailers, and all the proceeds support Barnardos.

Many of you will know Natasha from her time as a news anchor on breakfast tv, or her crowning moment as the first contestant ever to lift the Strictly glitterball. However, Natasha is an amazing advocate for children, using her roles as ambassador for Save The Children and president of Barnados to support life-changing projects around the world. After her revelatory experience appearing on Who Do You Think You Are, Natasha has pursued the difficult task of collecting and preserving testimony from Holocaust survivors. Her efforts in Holocaust education have led her to chair the wonderful charity, Echo Eternal, which uses the lens of the Holocaust to promote respect and understanding between communities.

The Walk – Sheffield Park

This week Natasha took us on a beautiful walk near her house, where we equalled our record for most dogs with us! We all got muddy when one after another we trod in the same ditch; and the dogs had a great time running around and jumping in puddles. Unofrtunately this week’s walk took place on private land, but we were very near to Sheffield Park. So, if you are feeling inspired by our latest episode we recommend taking a trip to Sheffield Park & Gardens.

The Sheffield Park estate has acres of woodland, with four beautiful lakes at the centre of the gardens and the River Ouse running through the bottom of the parkland. There are plenty of walks you can take around the area, including the woodland family play trail which is a great outing with children. It is full of mysterious wood carvings and fun adventure activities around the trail, which will keep the whole family entertained.
